Virtual High Wycombe, including Hughenden Manor

This brand new resource pack has been developed in conjuction with a group of teachers from Great Kingshill Church of England Combined School. The pack contains around 40 photographic virtual panoramas taken in and around High Wycombe. The pack is designed to support the teaching of a variety of subjects, including Geography, History, Art, RE, Science, D&T, English and PSHE, and also to be used across all year groups from Reception to Year 6.

The panoramas run on a computer (either PC or Mac) and offer the viewer a 360 degree view of a particular location, including the ability to look up and down. You can zoom in or out, and click to jump to other locations. A background atmosphere sound track helps to increase the sensation of actually 'being there', but since there is no text or commentary within the panoramas, they form a very flexible resource can be used with all year groups and all ability levels.

The panoramas can be run on a stand alone computer, or they can be used on an Interactive Whiteboard. The panoramas can really only be seen properly when viewed on a computer. The picture shown here, of the drawing room at Hughenden Manor, the former home of Benjamin Disraeli and now a National Trust property, is a flattened panorama, and has none of the interactivity of the real thing. In addition, the image appears somewhat distorted when presented in this way.

There is a Teachers's Pack that accompanies the CD-ROM, with a set of Teachers' Notes and a curriculum Mapping document. The pack is available for purchase, and can be bought using your eLearning Credits.
